Famed British biker bar lays tracks for Orlando

Ace Cafe is famous across the pond, having been around for over 70 years and even rebuilding after a Nazi bombing during World War II. Now, the bar know for its rock and roll clientele who roll up in hot rods and motorcycles is making its first stop in the United States.

After major renovations to some old warehouses, Ace Cafe Orlando will open in downtown Orlando later this year.

A "groundshaking" event was held at the location, 100 W. Livingston, this afternoon.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer declared this day "Ace Cafe Orlando Day" in the city. Later, he sat on a bike and called out "start your engines!"

A roar went up in the parking lot as dozens of hot rods and motorcycles fired up.

Along with Dyer, were Ace Cafe North America CMO Steve Glum and CEO Mark McKee. Ace Cafe London co-owners George Tsuchnikas and Mark Wilsmore also spoke.

Ace Cafe Orlando will occupy the former Harry P. Leu buildings and will include offices for its North American headquarters.

Once completed, it will house a motorcycle retail shop and outdoor space to display restored vehicles.

The entire operation will employ 200 people.

Ownership promises to be a good neighbor with planned events to benefit Orlando Health, police, fire and the military.

No word yet on an opening date.
