Dodge warns that its own dealers could be scammers

Dodge is warning the public that some of their dealerships could be scamming people by taking deposits for cars they may not get.

The company stated that a “

” of its dealerships are acting unethically, and illegally, by taking deposits for the 2015 Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat models, knowing that customers may have to wait months for the cars.

Some may never receive them at all.

"An isolated number of dealers have taken a far greater number of orders than they could reasonably expect to fulfill under the ...allocation system," reads a statement from Dodge.

The car company, a unit of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles state that the dealerships are causing a customer relations issue, but did not release names of dealerships or explain what the company will do to stop them.

While sales are already up this year for both the Challenger and Charger models, Dodge has decline to say how many of those cars will be the much-anticipated Hellcat models.
