Deputies: Man chases, tackles woman before trying to sexually batter her

A woman told deputies that a man tried to sexually batter her after she was chased and tackled to the ground, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said the woman was picked up by the man in the area of Mott Avenue and Edgewater Drive at about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies said the man became hysterical and began driving erratically. The woman told the man to stop the SUV and to let her out, but he kept driving.

As they drove north on Magnolia Homes Road and Maitland Boulevard, the woman jumped from the SUV, deputies said.

Investigators said the man stopped the SUV and then chased the woman and tackled her. Deputies said the man tried to sexually batter her and told her she was going to die.

The woman was able to break free and flag down a passerby.

The man ran away, leaving the Saturn SUV.

A description of the man has not been released.
