Police find runaway school boy in Cocoa

A 10-year-old boy was found safe in a wooded area after running away from his elementary school in Cocoa on Monday, officials said.

Teachers at Saturn Elementary School saw the student leave campus and jump a fence before heading into the woods during lunch time.

"He got in trouble at the cafeteria," fellow student Kaleb Strid said. "He kept talking and talking and talking."

School officials said they called deputies, who began an extensive search for the boy on the ground and in the air. They also sent out automatic notification call alerting residents who live near the elementary school.

"They wanted help in finding him," resident Larry Brown said.

The boy was found uninjured in a wooded area about two hours later, deputies said. He appeared fatigued but was otherwise all right.

"(We found him) a few hundred yards into the woods near a wet area," Cpl. David Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said. "We were able to find him and get him safely to his family."

Brevard County school district officials have not released any further details about the incident.
