Beach Rescue: Man pulled from water unresponsive

Just as the crowds head to Memorial Day  weekend beach festiviities, tragedy hits in Volusia County.

Lt. Tammy Maris of the Volusia County Beach and Rescue tells News 96.5 at around 11am Sunday two victims were pulled from the water at the 31-hundred block of South the Beach in Daytona Beach Shores.

“One of the gentlemen was unresponsive and we had to initiate CPR and the other gentleman was responsive but he was very exhausted so we took both of them to the hospital”, says Maris.

Maris says, the victims are both middle-aged males from the Tampa area and she goes on to say, there was a third man who tried to save the two. He is fine.

The red flag was raised signaling dangerous surf but Maris says, the victims were still overcome by rip currents which prompts her to send out another reminder to holiday beach goers by saying, “Always swim in front of an open lifeguard tower. It’s extremely important.”
