Baby born with perfect number '12' birthmark on forehead

When Catherine Jooste's great grandson was first born, all she saw was a perfect, healthy baby boy.

It was only a little while later that the family noticed something odd on the baby's forehead: a birthmark in the shape of a perfect number "12."

It was Hanru van Niekerk's aunt that first noticed the perplexing coloring on the infant's head.

"My youngest daughter was the first one to see it and she said there is a 1 and a 2 on his forehead," Jooste explains, adding that the mark is a "beautiful surprise."

Doctors have assured the family that the mark won't be with the now 4-month-old South African for life though.

"We did not worry about it, his doctor said it will fade as he gets older," Jooste commented.

Birthmarks are categorized as either vascular or pigmented and are either caused by abnormal blood vessels or clusters of pigmented cells.

Though most are harmless and do not need treated, little Hanru can also take Corticosteroids to help get rid of the mark.
