30% of Millennial men are unemployed

Though they may have mastered technology and have more higher education than the generations preceding them, it seems the Millennial generation is hurting for jobs.

A study recently released by the Pew Research Center finds that 30% of men of the Millennial generation, that is born between 1981 to 1996 and between the ages of 18 and 33, have no job at all.

This stat breaks down to show that of these men, 8% are unemployed while 22% aren't engaged in the workforce at all.

This isn't because employers would rather hire Millennial women either.

They are having an equally hard time finding employment.

Of the women that fall into the Millennial group, 37% are jobless (6% unemployed and 29% completely out of the job force.)

These statistics look harsh against those of former generations.

Men within Generation X (1965 to 1980,) Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964,) and the Silent Generation (1928 to 1945) had an employment rate of 78% when they were between the ages of 18 and 33.

Women of Generation X found only 31% of them unemployed while the ladies of the Baby Boomer generation had only 40% jobless.

It is thought the Millennials first struggled to find jobs because of the Great Recession, and it hasn't improved much; there aren't enough jobs available for those in their prime working years.

It is also pointed out that the study did not consider the underemployed, either.

Despite high education degrees, many Millennials are forced to stay underemployed because of lack of opportunities within their degree field.

This, combined with skyrocketing college costs, has a young generation struggling to not only buy homes of their own, but to leave their parent's homes at all.
