22 arrested, 30 pounds of meth seized in major drug bust

A team of law enforcement agencies, including the Polk County Sheriff's Department have taken down a major drug operation that spanned several states and reached into Mexico, officials said Friday.

At a press conference Friday, investigators said operation Déjà Vu put a big dent in a methamphetamine distribution network.

Officials said nine warrants were executed Thursday, resulting in 22 arrests.

According to officials, 72 firearms were sieved as well as 30 pounds of meth, which they said had a street value of $1.3 million.

"We work together to put a stop to people spreading poison to children," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

Judd said Thursday's operation was connected to a 2014 operation called Hoodoo Voodoo, which resulted in 26 arrests, the seizure of more than 100 firearms as well as 43 pounds of meth.

According to Judd, the 2014 raid led them to a drug lord from California who allegedly had ties to Christopher Lynn Trejo, who was living in Polk County.

Trejo was among those arrested Thursday.

Investigators are still searching for Fernando Tejeda-Tejeda, 26, who was last known to be living in Polk City.

Investigator said the defendants were shipping the meth from California to Lakeland, Atlanta, Georgia and Las Vegas, Nevada.

The agencies involved in the bust included the Attorney General's Office of Statewide Prosecution, the Polk County Sheriff's Office High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the Florida Highway Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
