Timber Creek High student arrested for causing explosion in bathroom

Orlando, Fla. — A teenage student has been arrested and charged for allegedly causing a fire and explosion in a bathroom at Timber Creek High School Saturday morning.

Deputies responded to the school on Avalon Park at 10:24 a.m. after getting a call of what was described as an explosion. A debate tournament was taking place at the time that the call came in, when administrators say they heard a loud, "boom" and black smoke and water started to come from the 1st floor of the boys bathroom.

The campus was evacuated and multiple agencies including the Orange County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad techa and the UCF police responded to the incident.

Witnesses say they saw a person running out of the bathroom prior to the sound and smoke and surveillance video confirmed it.

14 year old Drew Wideman was detained, questioned, and arrested. Wideman is charged with arson in the first degree, as well as two additoonal misdemeanor offenses.
