Terrifying video shows alligator swimming inches from Florida swimmer

FLORIDA — A Florida man hanging out in the Loxahatchee River came just inches away from becoming an alligator's lunch....and he didn't even know it!

Video from a body camera shows the 21-year-old man swinging on a rope above the river while his friends wade in the water in kayaks below. The man jumps into the water and doesn't realize that his camera has captured the scary image of a huge alligator right underneath his feet. 

It isn’t until his friend, Dave Salem, looks at the video and notices the creatures that was lurking under the murky waters the whole time.

'We couldn't believe it that he was so close to an alligator,' Salem tells the Daily Mail. "Once I sent it to him he was freaking out and saying he'll probably never swim in there again.'

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, 23 people have been killed by alligators in Florida since 1948.
