Seminole County brush fire prompts evacuation of homes and Girl Scout camp in Chuluota

Seminole County, Fla. — A brush fire has prompted authorities to evacuate homes in the Live Oak Reserve subdivision after evacuating the Camp Mah-Kah-Wee Girl Scout camp in Chuluota.

Fire officials tell News 96.5 WDBO the fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. off County Road 419 in Seminole County.

It started as 30 acres and grew to 50 plus, now the Florida Forest Service tells us it is about 160 acres.

People who live on Woodhurst Court in the Live Oak Reserve Subdivision have been ordered to evacuate their homes, according to the Oviedo Fire Department.

Firefighters with the Seminole County Fire Department said they used reverse 911 to alert campers to evacuate the area. Multiple agencies are on the scene of the fire, including Oviedo Fire Rescue, Seminole County Fire, Florida Fire Service and the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.

According to FFS, 25 percent of the fire is contained as of 8 p.m Saturday night.

The Chuluota  V-W-F Post has been established as the evacuation shelter, officials said.
