Polk County woman wants horse back after getting DUI

LAKELAND, FL — A Polk County woman, charged with DUI on a horse, is fighting to keep custody of that horse.

Lawyers for 53-year old Donna Byrne, said the horse, Bo Duke, is her only method of transportation.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office argued that Byrne subjected the animal to harm during the November 2nd arrest, and in two previous incidents.

A decision could come as early as December 8th, with two more hearings currently scheduled.

Bryne has a criminal record, including five felonies and 10 misdemeanor charges. They include cruelty to animals and drug possession.
