PETA accused of snatching and killing pet dog, apologizes with fruit basket

A Parksley, Virginia family is devastated after they say a van belonging to animal rights group PETA pulled up to their home, grabbed their beloved pet Chihuahua Maya, and took off. The worst part, they say, is two PETA representatives showed up three days later to tell the family their dog was killed and offered them a fruit basket as an apology!

Surveillance footage from the family's home on October 18 appears to show a PETA van pulling up to the trailer. A woman gets out, walks up to the porch and is supposedly seen snatching Maya. Wilbur Cerate says his daughter was left distraught after the dognapping. According to

the group came back to the home days later to say that Maya was dead and as consolation, offered the family a basket of fruit.

'I was angry. I understand they pick up my dog, [sic] if it was in a tree or another place, but this is in my house.'

The group has yet to issue a statement on Maya's death.
