Firefighters worked to put out the flames of a burning Sanford home and discovered a dead body inside Friday morning.
The fire started just after 3:30 a.m. at a home on 7th Street and Hickory Avenue.
Firefighters finished putting out the flames nearly an hour later and found a body inside the burned out home.
Steve Wieczorek, who lives next door, says he was woken up by one of the residents of the house on fire.
He said there is an elderly woman who lives in the home with her daughter.
"(My) neighbor came to the door around 3:30 a.m., knocking on the door. I came out, looked at the house and saw the northeast corner was ablaze. We stood out here, my girlfriend and I, and watched and in about a minute or so, it didn't take that long for the rest of the house to go up in flames," said Wieczorek.
Investigators said the person who was found inside was not the elderly woman.
Sanford police arrived at the home and put up crime scene tape.
No further details have been released.
