$25 million Student Center opens at Seminole State

Seminole State College in Sanford recently opened the doors to their new, state-of-the-art Student Center on January 2 and held a dedication program January 19.

The two-story building cost $21 million, not including design and furnishing, and was funded through a PICO request from the state. Seminole State says the total investment was $25 million.

After a multiyear process, the institution received the taxpayer funds they needed to begin construction. The result was a stunning building built offering students a hub for all their college needs from advising to gaming.

According to Jan Lloyd, AVP of Student Development, before this building the students had to cross different parts of campus to receive the help they now receive at the Student Center.

“They love that everything is together,” student body president Caleb Hylton said about the students’ reaction to the new facility.

Though Hylton admits the commute between buildings was not something he had realized until after it was all in one convenient location, he shares that he really enjoys his new SGA office in the center.

Equipped with a gaming room, food court and an ample amount of USB charging ports, students are now able to relax and study from any spot in the new Student Center.
