Lake Mary teacher set to swim from Sanford to Jacksonville

Lake Mary, Fla. — Luther F. Davis III, a Physics and Astronomy teacher and United States Masters Swimmer in Lake Mary plans to spend his spring breaking swimming nearly 200 miles along the St. Johns River. 164 of those miles will be from Sanford to Jacksonville.

Davis will kayak 16 miles across the waterway in Seminole County before jumping in the water to swim the rest.

Donations are reportedly being accepted to support his journey. Davis is carrying a GPS tracking device throughout his journey so that his fellow students and volunteers can track his status.

The motivation behind this journey is to push the limits of physical and mental endurance.
