Internet debates 'cruelty' of cat wearing monkey costume

What happens when you put a cat in a monkey costume and feed the furball a banana? You get a video that's setting the internet on fire!

The bizarre video, entitled 'Cat + Monkey 2016' was uploaded to YouTube on New Year's Eve and has already racked up thousands of views and more than 100,000 likes on the Cats Facebook page. 

In the 14-second clip, an orange tabby cat is dressed up in a monkey costume as its owner gives it a banana, which the 'monkey cat' begins to lick. Viewers can't decide whether it's hilarious or borderline animal cruelty.

"It's clearly not enjoying it and restricted from getting out of the monkey suit," says Michael Gpearson.

"Cats are NOT toys to be forced in to silly costumes. For goodness sake it is an animal not a doll," Shirley Berry commented.

Others defended the video.

Tony Huber, although he says he doesn't condone it, points out, "You can see the rest of the cat's body behind the costume if you look closely. Only the head is in the costume. Trust me, that cat would not just sit there if it was not ok with it!"

YouTuber 10 Cats is known for uploading kitty content. Their past videos include cats dressed in Santa outfits and feasting on a chicken dinner.
