Kissimmee, Fla. — Florida Hospital teamed up with WFTV-Channel 9, and 107.3 Solo Exitos to bring another Puerto Rico donation relief drive at the Florida Hospital in Kissimmee.
The first event was so successful that several 45-foot shipping containers filled with supplies were taken to Puerto Rico by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency. The shipping containers will be converted into housing in Puerto Rico.
Florida Hospital is partnering with the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists for this relief effort. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency will distribute the collected items in Puerto Rico.
As donors dropped off items at the drive, they were greeted with lines of volunteers cheering and dancing and of course, helping to unload the items and get them on the box trucks. There were also some volunteers from a galaxy far, far away.
Several volunteers from the 501st and Rebel Legion stopped by to help and take pictures with donors, volunteers, and even young children.
For many in Kissimmee, the devastation that hit Puerto Rico hits home.
The first Blessings for Puerto Rico drive resulted in 40,000 meals and hundreds of pounds of supplies being shipped to the island.
Volunteers, organizers and residents said they wish to continue bringing hope to the island.
