Family records deadly 20-car pileup in Buffalo blizzard

BUFFALO, NEW YORK — At least one person is dead and another seriously injured after a massive pileup during a relentless blizzard in Buffalo, New York.

A family driving in the opposite direction recorded video of the mess that shut down Interstate 90 for hours.

“This whole road is about to be shut down for years,” says one of the men in the video as they pass jackknifed tractor-trailers and crashed cars.

At one point, a couple of the passengers can be heard laughing while they point out the carnage.

New York State Police tell ABC News that weather was a factor in the collision. At least 15 to 25 vehicles were involved and 10 tractor-trailers. Many drivers had to be extracted from their cars.

A blizzard warning was in effect for the Buffalo area on Tuesday with whiteout conditions expected throughout the night.
