Dashcam video released of Brevard County deputy involved shooting

Rockledge, Fla. — The Brevard County Sheriff's Office has released grainy dashcam video of a chase that led to deputy involved shooting of a driver in Rockledge Sunday evening.

The incident happened after 6 p.m. on January 21st after Cpl. Davide Turbeville attempted to pull over 46 year old Ronald Jay Lawson on US-1.

Deputies say Lawson was spotted, driving erratically on Parkway Drive In Melbourne.

They say after Lawson fled a traffic stop, they began to chase after him.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey says deputies deployed stop sticks in order to put an end to Lawson's reported erratic driving. However, ultimately, a pit manuever, used by patrol cars to push vehicles, was used to end the chase.

As they approached Lawson's vehicle, something caused Turbeville to open fire.

However, it is not clear what Lawson did to threaten Turbeville.

Lawson was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injures.

Turbeville has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation and that state is no longer involved.
