California college suspends student who recorded professor's anti-Trump rant

A Republican student in California who recorded his professor describing President Trump's election win as an "act of terrorism" has been suspended by his college.

Back in December, Caleb O'Neil, 19, made headlines for posting a video of Olga Perez Stable Cox, a 66 year-old human sexuality professor, labeling the president a "white supremacist" during a class at Orange Coast College in California.

According to the Daily Mail, O'Neil anonymously sent the video to the college's Republican group to share, saying he did it to prove the bias at the school and not for Cox to be harmed.  Cox claimed she received complaints and even death threats.

On Wednesday, O'Neil revealed his identity and that he had been suspended for sharing the video.  He says the university sent him a letter complaining that he had violated its student code of conduct by recording Cox on video without her knowledge.

Unless he writes an essay explaining why he shared the video and apologizes to Cox, he will be suspended for an entire semester, reports the Daily Mail.

He has appealed the suspension and can continue going to class until a final decision is reached.
