The family of a missing 85 year-old Navy veteran who went missing in Daytona Beach confirms his body was found on Monday.
The Daytona Beach Police Department said a decomposing body was found near a home on Fairmont Road, which is only blocks away from the Indigo Palms assisted living facility where Harold Cantrell disappeared from on July 5.
His family says he served in the Korea War and now has Alzheimer’s disease.
The body was found behind a home belonging to Calvin Davis Jr., who told WFTV he noticed a foul stench in his backyard for a while but didn’t know what it was. He said his neighbor and daughter went back to investigate and found the body caught up in the wire fence in his backyard.
Horold Cantrell's family had organized numerous search parties over the past few weeks.
Police are now working with the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.
