ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police shot and killed a man this morning who had earlier threatened his ex-girlfriend at her downtown restaurant job, according to Deputy Police Chief Eric Smith.
It began around 11 a.m. at the Wahlburgers restaurant on the corner of Church Street and Orange Avenue.
Witnesses said the man came in, angry with his ex-girlfriend over a domestic violence restraining order and brandished a gun.
He ran off before any shooting happened. But workers were able to trace him and tell police where he was in the area of South Street and Hughey Street. He was confronted by police at that point.
“The suspect was given verbal commands to drop his weapon which was still in his hand. He ignored the commands. The officers were forced to use their service weapons, striking the suspect. He was taken to ORMC where he was pronounced dead.,’ said Smith.
“We got multiple 911 calls while this was going on,” said Dep. Chief Smith who priased the public’s help in finding he armed man.
Police are still investigating his background.
The Florida Departmentof Public Safety will investigate this police-related shooting, as it does for all such cases.
