ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — 900 cold stunned sea turtles were fished out of waters off Northeast and Northwest Florida since January 3. Rescue teams with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, its partners and volunteers collected the turtles.
"We've been very busy," said Michelle Kerr with the St. Petersburg-based Fish and Wildlife Research Institute.
Many of the turtles were transported to the Gulf World marine park and rehabilitated until the waters are warm enough to be reintroduced to the wild.
Some are tagged, for research.
No more sea turtle rescues are anticipated, as waters have warmed up again, Kerr noted.
